Where To Start: A Realistic Self-Assessment Before You Change Your Body

If What You’re Doing Isn’t Working—Start Here

If you’ve been:
  • Walking regularly
  • Taking classes
  • Running, cycling, or staying active
…and your body still isn’t changing the way you expected--
You’re not alone.
And it doesn’t mean what you’re doing is wrong.
It may just not be complete.

At the same time, you might be thinking:“I know I need to start… I just haven’t yet.”
Whether you’re doing something—or not yet doing enough--
You’re in the same place:
You’re ready for something to change.

Don’t Start Over—Step Back First
This isn’t about throwing everything out.
If you’ve been consistent:
👉 That’s a strength.
If you’ve built habits:
👉 That matters.
We’re not replacing that.
We’re building on it.

But before you add more, there’s one step most people skip:
Pausing long enough to understand where you actually are

Start With Your Real Life
Before thinking about workouts or programs, look at your life honestly.
Not critically—just clearly.
  • How much time do you realistically have each week?
  • When are you most likely to follow through?
If you’re already exercising:
  • Are you maxed out on time?
  • Or could you shift how you’re using it?
If you’re not doing much:
  • What feels realistic to begin with?
Even one consistent step forward counts.

If You’re Doing “Something”—But It’s Not Working
This is where many women get stuck.
They’re:
  • Consistent
  • Active
  • Putting in effort
But their body:
  • Looks the same
  • Feels the same
  • Isn’t responding
This isn’t a motivation problem.
It’s a direction problem.
And that’s a much easier problem to solve.

Recognize the Season You’re In
There are times in life when your capacity is limited.
  • Work is demanding
  • Family needs more from you
  • You’re navigating change
In those seasons, your role may be:
Maintain
Stay active
Support your body
Not:
Completely transform it
And that’s okay.

But if you’ve been in that same place for years…
Ask yourself:
Is this still a season—or has it become the pattern?
Because your body does need more—eventually.

Your Environment and Support Shape Your Progress
Now look at what surrounds you.
  • Do you have access to the type of training you need?
  • Do you feel comfortable trying something new?
And:
  • Do the people around you support this shift?
  • Or does prioritizing yourself feel difficult?
This becomes especially important when you move from:
👉 Familiar (cardio, classes)
To:
👉 Less familiar (resistance training)
Awareness here makes a difference.

Sometimes It’s Not Motivation—It’s Timing
This is something I see often.
There are women who genuinely want to move forward—but life is full.
Not just busy.
Full.
  • Careers
  • Children
  • Parents
  • Transitions
Even when the desire is there, the timing isn’t always aligned.

Sometimes it’s not about effort.
It’s about coordination:
  • Aligning schedules
  • Getting on the same page with a partner
  • Making the financial commitment make sense

I’ve had clients who were ready in mindset--
But not yet in structure.

And that matters.
Because:
Not ready yet does not mean not capable

Know Where You Stand—Without Judgment
You may be in a phase where:
  • You maintain what you can
  • You stay lightly consistent
  • You prepare for more later
Or you may realize:
You can begin now—just smaller than expected

Both are valid.
What matters is clarity.
Because clarity leads to intentional action.

What Are You Actually Working Toward?
If you’ve been following along, you already know:
  • Effort alone doesn’t change your body
  • Cardio alone isn’t enough
So now the question becomes:
👉 What do I actually want to change?
Not just:
“I want to lose weight”
But:
  • Do I want to feel stronger?
  • More defined?
  • More supported in my body?

From there, you create:
  • A short-term focus (next few weeks)
  • A longer-term direction (next 1–3 years)

You’re Not Going Back—You’re Moving Forward
It’s easy to think:
“I just want to get back to where I was.”
But your life—and your body—are different now.
This is not about going backward.
It’s about evolving forward.

Taking what you’ve already built:
  • Your habits
  • Your effort
  • Your awareness
…and expanding it into something more complete.

This Should Feel Possible
You are not behind.
You are not starting over.
You are adjusting direction.
And that can begin very simply:
  • One shift in how you train
  • One new focus
  • One step forward

A Simple Reflection
Before moving on, ask yourself:
  • Am I doing something—but not seeing results?
  • Am I just getting started?
  • Am I ready to take this to the next level?
Wherever you land--
👉 That’s your starting point.

What Comes Next

Once you understand:
  • Your life
  • Your habits
  • Your direction
The next step is to understand your body more specifically:
  • Where are you strong?
  • Where are you limited?
  • What does your body actually need more of?
That’s where we go next. How do you see yourself in the future?
